Visualized: Gestational Limits on Elective Abortions Around the World

We reviewed the gestational limits on elective abortions around the world. Across all countries the average limit was 4.3 weeks, but this includes countries that prohibit elective abortions. Excluding these 128 countries the average gestational limit on elective abortions across the 66 countries that do allow them was 12.8 weeks. Of all countries, the U.S., under Roe v. Wade, is in the top 7 most permissive countries or top 3%, allowing abortions at 24 weeks.

Well, these extremes of the state of necessity all apply in the case of the surgeon, who, put in the harsh condition, not created by him, extinguishes an imperfect and perhaps uncertain existence, to save a certain and real existence, which is that of the woman in childbirth.” (in Italian)
